Caption: Humber estuary. Infrared SPOT satellite image of the Humber estuary in northern England. North is at top. Water is blue, vegetation red and built-up areas and bare ground light blue. The Humber river flows into the North Sea. The towns of Kingston- upon-Hull (on the north bank of the Humber at upper left), Scunthorpe (lower left) and Grimsby (on the south bank of the Humber at lower right) are seen. The Humber Bridge crosses the Humber to the west of Hull. The spit at centre right is Spurn Head, formed from sand carried southwards down the coast by longshore drift. Image taken by a French SPOT Earth-observation satellite.
