Caption: General view of Hasylab at DESY, the German particle physics laboratory in the suburbs of Hamburg. Hasylab uses synchrotron radiation emitted as a result of electrons being accelerated around DESY's DORIS electron-positron accelerator. The radiation provides a useful source of ultraviolet light & X-rays, which are then used for a variety of experiments in fields as varied as solid state physics, materials science, chemistry, biology & medicine. The photo shows a number of such experiments in the Hasylab building.
