Caption: A cumulus cloud developing the steep sides typical of a vertical formation known as towers. Although it is classed as low-altitude (the flat base is usually only a few hundred metres from the ground) the top of this type of cloud may reach an altitude of up to 6km. The presence of cumulus cloud indicates convectional activity extending above the condensation level, the height above which condensation takes place in the atmosphere.
