Caption: Rays of the Sun breaking through clouds. The rays become visible when they emerge through gaps in cloud cover and scatter from dust particles or fine rain drops. The divergent appearance is an effect of perspective - the rays are in fact parallel. Rays such as this are often incorrectly termed crepuscular rays. True crepuscular rays are seen at dawn or dusk, when the Sun is still below the observer's horizon.
