Caption: Rainbow. Double arc rainbow seen over mountains. The outer arc is much fainter and has bands of coloured light which are the opposite way round to the inner arc. This phenomenon occurs when the Sun is located behind the observer and the sky is filled with raindrops. The separation of colours of light is caused by the refraction of the Sun's rays in the water drops. The larger the drops, the brighter are the colours. Photographed in the Dolomite Mountains, Italy.
