Caption: Brocken spectre. Apparition of a human figure (grey), whose head is surrounded by a rainbow coloured halo. This atmospheric effect occurs when a low sun is behind a climber who is looking down from a peak into mist. It takes its name from initial sightings on the Brocken, the highest peak of Germany's Harz Mountains. It is also known as a glory. Photographed from the Beinn a Chaorainn mountain, Scotland.
