Caption: Sun haloes. Ice crystals in the air lead to the refraction of sunlight seen in this image. The topmost curve, with colouring, is known as a circumzenithal arc. Below that, lying at the top of the circle, is the upper tangent arc. The circle itself, or 22 degree halo, surrounds, and is centred on, the Sun. At its right and left flanks are parhelia, or Sun Dogs.
