Caption: Thunderstorm. Storm chasers observing a severe thunderstorm from a crop field. Thunderstorms develop as warm moist air rises into cooler air, causing condensation and cumulonimbus cloud formation. As the clouds become increasingly unstable the updraft strengthens. Mature thunderstorms can produce as much as 100 millimetres of rain per hour and may cause localized flooding. Photographed in Kansas, USA.
