Caption: Hurricane Frances. Outer bands of Hurricane Frances off the coast of Fort Pierce, Florida, USA, on 3 September 2004. At this time Frances was classified as a category 2 hurricane, with winds of between 154 and 177 kilometres per hour. It hit land, on the eastern coast of Florida, on 4 September. The winds killed 6 people, damaged buildings, brought down power lines and caused $100 million worth of damage to space and military facilities at Cape Canaveral.
