Caption: Hurricane evacuation. Traffic jam on the north- bound carriage of a motorway in southern Alabama, USA, on 14 September 2004. They are fleeing Hurricane Ivan, which hit land near Gulf Shores, Alabama in the early hours of 16 September 2004. At the time it hit, it was classified as a category 4 hurricane, with winds of 210 kilometres per hour. The winds killed 25 people, destroyed buildings, brought down power lines and spawned tornadoes. Ivan continued inland, weakening to a tropical depression in north-east Alabama.
