Caption: Hurricane Katrina battering a palm tree in Gulfport, Mississippi, USA, on 29th August 2005. Gulfport is on the Gulf of Mexico coast of Mississippi, and bore the brunt of Katrina, which arrived as a category four hurricane. All the seafront timber buildings were destroyed, and even the concrete structures suffered serious damage. Katrina left a trail of damage across much of the Gulf coast region. Katrina was thought to have been the most costly natural disaster in US history at the time.
