Caption: Barking flood barrier. This barrier at Barking Creek, London, England is part of the Thames tidal flood defence scheme. Built in 1982, it is downstream from the Thames Barrier, and serves to supplement it during extremely high tides. Its 60 metre high drop gate (upper center) is kept open, as in this case, to allow shipping to pass freely through the structure.
