Smoke appears blue, vegetation red, bare ground green/brown, water blue/black and buildings light blue/grey. Most of the fires were started by lightning strikes following extremely dry weather. Over 300 buildings were destroyed by these fires in June and July 1998. The Atlantic Ocean is at upper right, while Lake Monroe is at bottom centre. Image taken by a French SPOT satellite. Image resolution: 20 metres. To see this area before the fires see image E780/727.
