Caption: Fires on Borneo, Indonesia, satellite image. North is at top. Smoke (grey, lower right) from the many wild fires is seen over much of the land. Fires are often started by slash and burn agriculture in this region. The smoke can cause lung damage and has even interfered with air traffic on occasions. This image was created by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) on the Terra Earth observation satellite on 19th August 2002.
