Caption: Forest fire. Tree engulfed in flames during a fire in a forest. A forest fire can be caused by human activities, or it can be a natural occurrence due to lightning or volcanic activity. The fire clears away old growth and recycles nutrients (contained in the ashes) for new plant growth. This tree is an eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana), which is actually a juniper tree, not a cedar tree. It is an evergreen tree and grows to heights of about 12-15 metres. Photographed in Missouri, USA.
