Caption: An anemometer - an instrument used to measure wind speed - located on top of a tower at the Jodrell Bank radio observatory near Manchester, England. The large telescope in the distance is the giant, 250 foot (76 metre) diameter Mark 1A radio telescope. When the wind exceeds a certain speed, the telescope is pointed straight up (as seen here) and secured. Photo taken May 1987.
