Caption: Knotted wrack seaweed (Ascophyllum nodosum). This is a common brown seaweed. Mid-way along its fronds are air bladders (bubbles). These are floatation devices that keep the seaweed near sunlight when in the water. At the end of the fronds are oogonium and antheridium (oval sacs), which contain the female and male sex cells respectively.
