Caption: MODEL RELEASED: A meteorologist studying images from a US weather satellite. Satellite imagery has revolutionised the forecasting of weather. Images made in different wavebands show different types of cloud and water vapour concentrations. Satellites in geostationary orbit may make observations almost continuously, providing a series of images showing the movement of major weather features. This allows much more accurate weather forecasts to be made, and can lead to the issuing of storm or hurricane warnings where needed. This photograph was taken at the National Weather and Hurricane Service, USA.
