Caption: Air sampling. Atmospheric researcher using a portable sampling kit to study the air. This research was done to study the boundary layer (the layer of the atmosphere in contact with the land or sea) as part of the stable Antarctic boundary layer experiment (STABLE). This measured wind speed, humidity and air pressure close to the ground. Research such as this provides more information on how the surface and the air interact, allowing more detailed predictions of the development of weather systems. Photographed at the Halley Research Station, Antarctica.
