EISCAT studies the interaction between the solar winds and the magnetic fields of the Earth's upper atmosphere and ionosphere. It is these interactions that cause the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. Photographed at Sodankyla Geophysical Institute, Finnish Lapland.
