Volunteer, or distributed, computing allows scientists to replicate the power of supercomputers by using idle time on personal computers owned by the public. When the computer is idle, packets of data are sent to the user. The screen saver performs calculations and sends the results back to a base server. The aim of ClimatePrediction.net is to investigate possible climate scenarios in the future. The screen saver runs on the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC).
