Caption: Seal hunt. Inuit hunter waiting for a ringed seal to appear from its breathing hole in the ice. The hunter uses a rifle which is shielded by a white blind. He will crawl along the ice until he is close enough to shoot. He is wearing polar bear fur over his legs and boots, known as kamiks , made from seal skin. Melting ice and receding glaciers caused by global warming is altering the subsistence lifestyle of many Inuit people and the animals they hunt. Photographed in Qaanaaq, Greenland, in 2006.
