Caption: Sea ice. True-colour satellite image of Atlantic sea ice in James Bay, the southern part of Hudson Bay, Canada. North is at top, and snow and ice are white. The spring thaw has just started, and the coast and islands are marked by narrow lanes (dark blue) of open sea. The bay extends from top left down to lower centre, while the land runs down the right, and is also at lower left. Hudson Bay is a large inland sea that filled a depression left by the retreating glaciers. Image taken on 23 April 2002 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Terra satellite.
