Caption: Gulf stream temperature, 2006. Satellite image of the east coast of North America (grey, upper left), showing the sea surface temperature (SST) of the Gulf Stream. The sea temperature decreases as the stream moves from Florida (bottom left) towards Canada (top right), cooling from about 30 degrees celsius (orange) to about 10 degrees celsius (blue). This temperature gradient was recorded as an average from data obtained from 22nd September to 23rd October 2006 by the MODIS instrument on NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites.
