Tsunami simulation. Second of 3 three-dimensional computer simulation images of a giant sea wave (tsunami) in Cadiz Bay, Spain, 1 hour 13 minutes after its creation during an earthquake in 1755. Water is blue and land is yellow. The tsunami is shown as ripples on the flat surface of the sea. Tsunamis are about 0.5 metres (m) high in the open sea but may be 15 metres (m) tall or more as they approach land. This computer model was designed as part of the international Genesis and Impact of Tsunamis on European Coasts (GITEC) project to assess the effects of a possible tsunami in the near future.
