This image is part of the sequence Environment: simulation of a tsunami in Cadiz Bay
This image is part of the feature Tsunami

Caption: Tsunami simulation. Third of 3 three-dimensional computer simulation images showing a giant sea wave (tsunami) in Cadiz Bay, Spain, 1 hour 40 minutes after its formation during an earthquake in 1755. Water is blue and land is yellow. The tsunami is shown as ripples on the surface of the sea. Tsunamis are about 0.5 metres (m) high in the open sea but may be 15 m tall or more as they approach land. This computer model was designed as part of the international Genesis and Impact of Tsunamis on European Coasts (GITEC) project to assess the effects of a possible tsunami in the near future. (See photo's E275/006 & E275/007).
