Caption: Boscastle, Cornwall, aerial photograph. The village of Boscastle is situated on the north coast of Cornwall, UK. In August 2004 Boscastle suffered extensive damage during an extreme flash flood, the worst flooding ever known to have occured to the village. Sustained heavy rainfall occured over over several hours across Cornwall. In Boscastle, the relief and steep topgraphy of the area exacerbated the problem. The level of the river in the village rose by 2m in one hour, leading to a devasting wave to surge through the village causing the extensive damage to buildings and washing cars into the sea.
