The interior of a specially adapted truck housing a variety of electronic recording, filtering and timing instruments used for seismic surveying. The truck works in conjunction with a fleet of mobile artificial seismic wave generators. The seismic waves they produce are sent down through the substrate to be reflected at any discontinuities in the rock medium. The returning signals are picked up by a nearby network of ground microphones, known as geophones, and fed into this central recording truck. Analysis of these echoes allows geophysicists to build up a picture of the underlying rock strata called a seismic reflection profile.
