Caption: Woodland floor covered with a moss Leucobryum glaucum. The moss is blue-green in colour when damp, and paler when dry (as here). It is fairly common in woodland and heath communities. Unusually, it may survive as detached 'moss balls', although it is normally found as a cover of rounded cushions. The tree in the background is a Sweet Chestnut (Castanea sativa).
