Caption: Popocatepetl volcano. Infrared satellite image of Popocatepetl volcano (lower centre), Mexico. At 5452 metres above sea level, this is the second- highest peak in Mexico. Urban areas are pale blue, bare ground is brown and vegetation is green and red. While the volcano's snow-covered cone sometimes emits smoke, there have been no major eruptions in recent times. The data for this image were collected by the French SPOT 4 satellite on 21 December 2000.
