Caption: Mount Taranaki volcano, New Zealand, photographed from the space shuttle Atlantis. At the time the photograph was taken, on 9th April 2002, Atlantis was 167 kilometres above the Earth. This volcano is capped with snow (white) and its flanks are forested (dark green). The forested area is bordered by land used for dairy farming. Taranaki is the second highest volcano in New Zealand, standing 2518 metres tall. Its last major eruption was in 1755.
