Caption: Mount Cleveland, Alaska, USA, seen from the International Space Station (ISS). The volcano has just erupted, and an ash plume (grey) is moving west-southwest from the summit crater. Snow is seen on the upper slopes of the volcano. The eruption occurred at around 23:00 GMT (15:00 local time), on 23 May 2006, and stopped two hours later. Mount Cleveland, an active stratovolcano in Alaska's Aleutian Islands, reaches an elevation of 1730 metres. Photographed by a member of the ISS's Expedition 13 crew.
