Caption: Agrihan. Volcanic island of Agrihan seen from the International Space Station (ISS). Agrihan is part of the Mariana Islands chain in the western Pacific Ocean. It has an area of 47 square kilometres and is dominated by a 965 metre tall active volcano. Although the island was evacuated in 1990 due to the threat of volcanic activity, the last eruption was in 1917. A settlement has since been re-established and as of 2005 there were nine inhabitants on the island. Photographed on 1st April 2003.
