Caption: Ancient Earth. Computer artwork of the Earth at the time of the death of the dinosaurs, some 65 million years ago. The extinction of the dinosaurs is thought to have been brought on by a massive asteroid impact on what is now the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. This event marks the boundary between the cretaceous and tertiary eras, and is known as the K/T boundary. North is at top. Land is green and water is blue. The continents of Asia (upper left), Australia (lower right) and India (lower left) are seen. The position and shape of the continents has changed over time due to continental drift, erosion and climate change.
