Caption: Kaibito plateau. Aerial photograph of a landscape formed from sedimentary rocks of the Kaibito plateau, Arizona, USA. These rocks are partly composed of volcanic ashes, deposited here by air currents during prehistoric times. The ashes contained high levels of iron, chromium and cobalt, which produced the blue-grey colours seen.
