Caption: Macrophotograph of the surface of a slab of polished marble. This grey variety with yellowish- brown veining comes from Italy and is known commercially as Supren Gold. Marble is a metamorphic rock composed mainly of calcite (calcium carbonate), but containing minute amounts of various impurities which give it a variety of colours.
