Caption: Porphyritic texture in granite rock. Granite is a dark grey igneous rock, formed when volcanic magma solidifies under pressure in the Earth's crust. This granite is porphyritic, containing large, isolated, pink crystals of feldspar. Feldspar is the most common mineral in the crust. This sample measures 120 millimetres across.
