Specimen of iron ore. Iron ores are widely distributed both in geological time & geographical location. They are found in some of the oldest kown rocks with an age in excess of 2.5 billion years. They are currently being formed where iron oxides are being percipitated in marshy areas. They occur in igneous, metamorphic & sedimentary rock, or as the product of weathering of various iron-bearing materials.
