Caption: Excavation of fossils at East Turkana in northern Keyna, where a permanent shelter is being built over the exceptionally well-preserved fossil remains of an elephant. The East Turkana expedition began in 1968 and was lead by Richard Leakey. It comprised an 800 square kilometre region, rich in hominid and other fossils, many of which were exposed by sparse, but heavy seasonal rains.
