Caption: Hominid fossil skull of Rhodesia man, Homo rhodesiensis and Homo sapiens rhodesiensis, also known as Broken Hill man and Kabwe man. It was excavated at the Broken Hill Mine, Kabwe, Zambia by T. Zwigelaar in 1921. Initially, the remains were dated at 40,000 years ago during the Upper Pleistocene period, but on recent re-evaluation of the evidence Rhodesia man is thought to have lived 125,000 years ago. The classification of Rhodesia man is not settled, but it is believed to be an intermediate form between late Homo erectus and early Homo sapiens. It is now included in a group known as early archaic Homo sapiens.
