Caption: Fern sporangium. Light micrograph of a section through the sporangium (spore-bearing structure) of a bracken (Pteridium sp.), a type of fern. The sporangium is spherical and contains numerous spores (red). The spores are released from the sporangium and are dispersed by the wind, being very light. They can develop into a new plant if they land in a region with the correct conditions.
