Caption: Christmas fern spores. Light micrograph of spores in a sorus on the underside of a Christmas fern (Polystichus acrostichoides) frond. The sorus is the region in which spores (pink dots) are produced. They are carried in sacs called sporangia (round). Every frond of this plant has sori on its underside. Magnification: x42 when printed 10cm wide.
