Caption: Bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum, yellow) growing with Scots heather (Calluna vulgaris). The bracken fern fronds have faded to a yellow autumn colour. This widespread fern is usually found growing on acid heathland soils and in woods and sheltered grasslands. Photographed in August, in Cairngorms National Park, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
