Caption: Goniatite fossil from the Carboniferous period, around 350 million years ago. A goniatite is a type of ammonite, a cephalopod mollusc related to the modern nautilus. It inhabited warm shallow seas throughout the world. This goniatite was found in Rissani, Morocco, and inhabited a sea in what is now the Sahara Desert.
