Caption: Trident trilobite fossil. Head of a trident trilobite, a bottom-dwelling marine scavenger. Trilobtes inhabited seas between the Cambrian and Permian periods, 542-250 million years ago. It is thought that the trident on the head of this trilobite was used to stir up the seabed mud to unearth food particles.
