Caption

Fossilised coral. Uplifted section of coral limestone. Corals are colonial marine animals which secrete an external skeleton of calcium carbonate. Over time this forms limestone rock. Periods of different growth produce the layering effects, or strata, seen here. Photographed in Barbuda, West Indies.
