Caption: Sea urchin fossil. Rock containing fossils of Scutella sp. sea urchins. The rocks date from the Oligocene epoch (34 to 23 million years ago). Fossils appear as rock slowly forms around objects buried in mud. As the rock forms, the shape and anatomy of buried animals and plants can be preserved. These fossils were found in France.
