Caption: Fossilised remains of a prehistoric fish (Lepidotes sp.). This example has been particularly well-preserved, with the scale patterns and the large, bony head clearly defined. This fish was about 80cm in length, and was found in the Holzmaden area of Germany. Such a piece commands very high prices at fossil fairs, such as the one at Tuscon, Arizona, where this fossil was photographed.
