Caption: Daspletosaurus attacking styracosaurs. Artwork of the predatory dinosaur Daspletosaurus torosus attacking a Styracosaurus herd. These dinosaurs lived around 84-72 million years ago. Daspletosaurus reached a length of up to 10 metres (m) and weighed 2 to 3.5 tonnes. It is classified in the same family as Tyrannosaurus rex and may have been its close ancestor. Styracosaurus was a herbivore that is thought to have gathered in herds. Its distinctive spiked frill and horns may have been used both as a defence against predators and in mating displays or rituals. It reached about 5m long and weighed up to 3 tonnes.
