Eroded rock. Rock formations produced by erosion. The rock is composed of iron and manganese materials which settled here around 40 million years ago, during the Tertiary period. The materials settled at the edge of a lake and gradually solidified into stone. Since then the lake has disappeared and rain, wind and ice have acted on the rocks. The softer parts gradually disintegrated, leaving the columns and pinnacles of hard rock seen. Photographed in the Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah, USA.
